Share your memories for prizes with Sharp 100 Years Anniversary Share…

When I was much younger, I used to stay with my grandparents in Seremban. One of the first cognitive memories I had were curling up with my grandmother in front of the TV while she watched her favourite shows Dallas and the Golden Girls (yes, it was THAT far back!). I used to fall asleep to the sound of the TV, which I found quite soothing. Even when I travel nowadays on my own, I will usually leave the TV on in the background just so it isn’t too quiet.

Fast forward several years, and my grandparents moved to the city – one of the items that was moved into my grandfather’s study was that old TV, still working after all those years. That TV was none other than a Sharp, and lasted quite some time (I believe it was over 10 years, but I was really still a kid back then!). I remember it needing minor repairs a couple of times, but otherwise worked just fine.

With lasting power like that, it’s probably little surprise that we can celebrate their 100th anniversary, or Sharp 100 Years.

Over the years, I’ve probably seen tons of products come out from Sharp, but nowadays the one that I have my eye on (thanks to a particular enabler!) is the Sharp Portable Plasmacluster Ion Generator – an awesome device for purifying the air around me, as well as neutralizing the bacteria and allergens. Very useful given the recent mucky weather and the bouts of flu and cough going around, if you ask me.

I want me one of these babies!!

But beyond creating useful and aesthetically pleasing products such as these, Sharp is also about the long term. Having seen firsthand just how long a simple TV can last, I have no doubt Sharp will be sticking around for a long time yet.

Which brings us to their latest campaign – Sharp has created the Sharp 100 Years website with an Anniversary Share page, where they would like for you to share your memories, photos and videos about your significant anniversaries in return for some nice prizes. From now until 15 September 2012, just visit the website to submit your entries in photo or video form.

The prizes aren’t anything to sneeze at either – two pairs (four people) out of all the entries will be selected to win a trip to the West Coast in USA, while the top ranking pictures and videos will receive Sharp products. Results will be announced on 15 October.

Better still, every photo and/or video that is submitted will be made into a work of film, and displayed on the website for the duration of the campaign. Not a bad way to get your 15 minutes of fame, no? :D

Crayola Mini Nail Polish set!!

OMG who remembers having Crayola crayons as a kid? *waves hand frantically in the air* Seemed like the kid with the biggest box of crayons or colour pencils and the most colours won almost god-like status in the classroom. :D

When I came across this oh-so-ADORABLE Crayola mini nail polish set, my jaw dropped. Gimme. NOW. I’m so going to try and get my hands on this!

There are 8 colours in total, supposedly from the most popular colours – they’d be awesome to use for a rainbow-hued manicure, don’t you think? Each bottle is 0.07oz so it’s not a lot of polish, but then again it really is more of a novelty than a full-fledged collection.

The Crayola Mini Nail Polish Set is available on Fred Flare and retails at US$12.

My favourites out of the lot are the orange, robin’s egg blue (hel-lo Tiffany’s!) and plum (d-uh!). What’s your favourite? :D

Bellabox June box – the best so far (and an important announcement)…

It’s a bit late in the month, but I thought I’d keep up with sharing what I’ve gotten in my Bellabox this month – simply because it’s been one of the absolute best so far! Themed the “Summer Upgrade” box, I ended up with not the usual 5, but 8 items in the box. Granted, there’s no full-sized item in this box as with some of the previous ones, but they’re pretty nifty all the same – have a look! :D

And this is what I got in my box (clockwise from top left):

• Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate (4ml)
• Lancome Genefique Youth Activator (5ml)
• Ralph Lauren Romance (vial)
• Biotherm White D-Tox BB Cream (5ml)
• Kiehl’s Calendula Herbal-Extract Toner (40ml)
• Shu Uemura White Efficient Gentle Cleansing Oil (20ml)
• Lancome Blanc Expert Derm-Crystal (5ml)
• Biotherm Lait Corporel Body Moisturiser (30ml)

There was also a host of discount vouchers which is to be expected, but I liked that they’re not considered as part of the box but rather supplementary  in case you really like the items and want to purchase the full-size.

Out of the whole box, these two were my personal favourites, both coincidentally from Kiehl’s – the Calendula Herbal-Extract Toner and the Midnight Recovery Concentrate.

The Calendula toner is an awesome travel size, and is an exact replica of the full-sized version, down to the marigold petals in the bottle (yes, being very superficial here but I love touches like that!). The Midnight Recovery Concentrate also comes in a sturdy glass bottle with the dropper, which makes it easy to dispense, as well as to refill when I go travelling since I already have the full-size bottle. By comparison, the previous sample of MRC I’d tried from Kiehl’s came in a blister pack where you snapped off the top so definitely no reusing! :D

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

Bellabox will be increasing their monthly subscription to SG$19.95 from 21 June onwards (the box previously cost SG$15). New members who sign up on or after 21 June will pay the new rate, while existing members will enjoy the current rate of SG$15 for the July box before paying the new rate from August onwards.

Personally, if Bellabox continues to deliver boxes such as you see this month, I’m more than happy to continue with them. I haven’t gotten a dud box yet, and the folks at Bellabox have been nothing but open to feedback and honest about their shortcomings.

China Glaze Prismatics and their latest counter in Isetan KLCC…

For all nail polish fanatics, you would have heard that China Glaze finally opened their own counters in Malaysia. Previously, there had been of course, stocks brought in by independent blogshops and the like, but now they have not one, but 2 official counters in Isetan 1 Utama and Isetan KLCC.

Did you know that China Glaze is not from China as the name may imply? They’re from the USA, but are so named because they contain China Clay which as a nail hardener (the same material that gives porcelain its shiny finish!). All their products are free of DBP, Toulene and added Formaldehyde as well.

Feeling “fabulously fierce”, as my tag says…*wink*

The counter in KLCC just opened recently, and along with an introduction to the brand and its current counter (they also carry a range of Seche products), we were also treated to a preview of the latest China Glaze range to be introduced in Malaysia. I kind of gave it away in the title… :P

It’s none other than the China Glaze Prismatic chroma glitter range!

There are a total of 6 shades available as shown above – names and descriptions below are from left to right:

• Ray-diant – greenish-gold shimmer with silver, pink, green, orange and blue specks
• Polarized – metallic silver sheen with yellow, pink, orange and green glitter
• Liquid Crystal – bright blue holo with a purple tint as well as silver, gold, green, pink and orange dust
• Prism – grape-purple holo with pink shimmer and pink, blue, green, orange, silver and gold glitter
• Full Spectrum – baby pink-magenta holo with silver, gold, blue, pink and green particles
• Optical Illusion – aqua green with a hint of purple and pink, yellow, silver, orange and green flecks

I had a manicure done with the Prismatic polishes as well while we were there – and just check out my manicurist’s nails which feature the China Glaze Magnetix polishes, cute right?

And voila! I opted to alternate two shades from the Prismatic range – what you see is Optical Illusion (green) on my pointer and ring fingers, and Liquid Crystal (blue) on my middle finger and pinky.

China Glaze Prismatic combines glitter and holographic bits to create a “holo but more” effect, which also means that your nails will have a textured finish to it. And no, 3 layers of Seche Vite will not help – trust me, I tried! For someone who’s more used to smooth nail surfaces, this felt a bit weird but nothing to be too concerned about seeing how gorgeous the colour effect turned out.

China Glaze Prismatic is available from June onwards at Isetan 1 Utama and Isetan KLCC. Products retail from RM42 onwards.

Getting the 'Emma Watson' pout with Lancome Rouge in Love…

A few weeks back, Lancome held an event for bloggers to introduce us to the latest Rouge in Love range. In typical evurl fashion, all we ended up doing was yakking up a storm, taking pics of the products and camwhoring (which doesn’t happen as often as you’d think, given that we're spread all over KL and beyond now!)

Lancome Rouge in Love comes in 27 shades divided into 3 themes – Tonight is my night, Boudoir Time and Jolis Matins

Rouge in Love as a lipstick is remarkably sheer and – dare I say it – quite slippery, which was even more obvious when they got us to play with the shades in a “face art” contest. Personally, it felt closer to a tinted balm with a bit more colour, although the finish is lovely. There’s also a mix of finishes available, which is great.

Out of all 27 shades, I thought I’d share with you 8 of my personal picks – funnily enough, they all fall within the “Tonight is my night” and “Boudoir Time” ranges.

One of my absolute favourite colours – 375B or Bold Fuschia, also unofficially known as the “Emma Watson” shade because that’s the colour she wears in the advertisements. (Edit: The hue worn by Emma Watson is Miss Coquelicot/ 146B - am now confused as heck because the press release says Miss Coquelicot is 155B!) :D Hey, if I can't look like Emma, at least my lips can feel like hers (I think).

The thing about Rouge in Love is that it’ll translate slightly differently on each wearer – obviously we’re no Emma Watsons, but you can see how 375B looks remarkably similar (and yet not quite) on Yani, Dom and myself. The phrase “same same, but different” comes to mind…

Last but not least, me being a bit narcissistic (look at me!) Haha..it was actually the first event I’d attended in KLCC in quite a while, and it was awesome catching up with the rest of the evurl ladies again (cue hysterical and side-splitting laughter session).

Random Conversations: What would you put in your beauty box?

A few weeks back, I was chatting online with Paris about random things and the topic switched to beauty boxes, also known as sample subscription boxes (Don’t you just love random conversations? Never know where they’re going to lead!) and what we would have put into our own if we could make one. Which leads me to today’s topic…

Of course, normal beauty boxes have to take into consideration factors such as cost, packaging, or even sponsors but in this case I ignored everything else, so take it as a box with some of my favourite items that I’d want to share with you.

These would be the 5 items that I would have put into my beauty box (if I did one, that is!)

• Garnier Intensive 7-days Nourishing Hand Cream with Mango Oil – I first came across this when Tine wrote about it, and after getting a few tubes in Melbourne, I’m hooked! Everyone should have a tube of this on their person at all times, ‘nuff said.
• Kiehl’s Ultimate White Surface Brightening Exfoliator – I used to think this was good, and then my tube mysteriously disappeared one day. I found out many months later that my gran had inadvertently nicked it to use, and we were wondering why her skin was so fair! Sold!
• LAQA & Co Nail Polish Pen – I got one of these from Bella Box, and this is fun to use. I love that the brush tip is nice and thick so the polish goes on really easily even for nail polish noobs like me. :D
• L’Oreal Dermo-Expertise Gentle Lip and Eye Makeup Remover – I’ve been using this for quite some time now, and it works wonders on waterproof makeup (especially mascara, the little buggers stick to everything!)
• LUSH Bubblegum Lip Scrub – Let’s just say scrubbing my lips has never been so much fun or tasty! With a sugar lip scrub, the biggest problem I have is stopping myself from eating it while I’m scrubbing my lips!

And there you have it! Come to think of it, apart from the LAQA and Kiehl’s, the rest of the other items are actually quite affordable (under SG$10 each) so who knows, it might be possible! :D
