I’m a Mad Hatter…

Ahhh…feeling pretty good after a long weekend back to KL – I took a couple of days off so I could get some banking and other stuff done (the kind you can’t do online or over the weekend) as well as post off the giveaway packages (uhuh, they’re off so to the winners, keep an eye out!)

Anyway, today was my first day back at work this week…and as I’m writing this, my office is actually hosting some media peeps over for a little party. Why is this relevant? Err…it’s not really, just that the theme for the night was “Mad Hat”, so I thought I’d share with you what I wore… :D

Teeheehee…look familiar? The hot pink wig is actually from Paperdoll (I tried on several others the last time I was there) while the red and black spidery-looking thing is a separate clip-on.

That’s what the complete ensemble looked like after adding some eyeliner and mascara. And yes, that is my natural hair coming out the bottom - it was intentional, to add some contrast to the shocking pink... :D Some said I looked like I’m channelling Lady Gaga, my bro said I look like a cotton candy machine exploded on my head, some said I look like an anime character…what do you ladies think? :p

Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid makes me bounce…

Okay, not in THAT way…and I don’t mean drinking it makes me bounce – using it on my skin does! :)

Now that I’ve got all of you on the right track (some of you really have imaginative minds!), I can get down to telling you about my experience with Hada Labo. I’d been intrigued by Hada Labo since they took the Asian markets by storm – suddenly everyone was talking about its ‘toing toing’ effect. After all, they did claim their Super Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Lotion was Japan’s #1 bestselling face lotion.

So…is this an accurate representation?

Well, I had to finish up my current skincare line first before moving on to the next, so it’s been a few weeks now using a couple of items from the Super Hyaluronic Acid range. And it’s not bad!

The two products I’m using at the moment are the Super Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Lotion and Super Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Face Wash. Gee…that’s a lot of hydration!

Super Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Face Wash
Description:
Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Face Wash hydrates as it cleanses, helping to restore and preserve skin’s natural moisture, leaving it silky smooth. The wash gently cleanses, leaving skin comfortably hydrated and refreshed. Skin pH balanced with low irritation, and free of fragrance, mineral oil, alcohol and colourants.

The Verdict:
This is pretty straightforward in usage – just use it as you would any other face wash. I used to think (waaaay back) that a clean face had to be squeaky clean, which of course meant that I was stripping all the moisture from my face, but I felt that some other cleansers (particularly cleansing oil) never felt like my face was really clean. It’s just a quirk I have, and probably just mental.

However, this face wash leaves my face feeling fresh without ‘squeaking’, if that makes sense. I wish it would lather up more, since that’s the ‘fun part’ for me, but I’m not too bothered by it. The good thing is, there’s no tightness immediately afterwards even when I smile (which is a benchmark for any cleanser I use – if it hurts to smile immediately after cleansing before moisturising, it doesn’t pass!), and comes in a creamy texture so I only need just a little bit each time. Suffice to say, this tube will be lasting me QUITE some time.

Super Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Lotion
Description:
Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Lotion instantly hydrates skin and helps preserve its optimum moisture balance by replenishing and locking in moisture for complete hydration. Skin feels significantly soft and supple, while dry and dehydrated skin is improved, leaving it silky smooth. Skin pH balanced with low irritation, and free of fragrance, mineral oil, alcohol and colourants.

The Verdict:
This hydrating lotion is a little more time consuming that I had expected. I was thinking that it wouldn’t take too long to pat into my skin, but then again, I think I used a bit TOO much the first time.

Here’s what works for me – I drop 3 drops into my palm (there’s no need to squeeze the bottle at all as it’ll drip out once you tip it over...it's a good thing the cap closes tightly!), rub it between my palms and start patting all over my face until it’s fully absorbed.

The patting is actually the key part in getting the lotion absorbed into your face, and I thought this video on YouTube was pretty cute (although the girl does look quite funny in the process):

The lotion feels sticky while patting, but afterwards I feel like the chubby toddlers whose cheeks are always too tempting for old aunties to avoid pinching – the desired ‘toing toing’ effect. I try to use it twice a day, but admittedly it does add some time to my skincare regime so on mornings where I need a little more sleep or am running late, it gets left out.

Overall:
Although I love the results I got from these two products, I had to wonder what exactly ‘Super’ Hyaluronic Acid was – after all, shouldn’t ordinary Hyaluronic Acid work just as well?

According to Hada Labo, Super Hyaluronic Acid has twice the moisture retention capacity of Hyaluronic Acid (1gm of Hyaluronic Acid can hold up to 6 litres of water), which means you literally get double the strength of a moisture locking shield to replenish and retain essential skin moisture. Sounds good to me. :)

I’m glad I didn’t have any adverse reactions to it, since I’d heard the likes of Paris and Connie rave about the lotion. Since these are the two more popular products in the Hada Labo range, I’m not sure what others I’d like to try – there’s a new Hydrating Mist out, as well as a Hydrating Makeup Remover that looked quite intriguing (currently available in Singapore for about S$17.90, and will hit Malaysia later this year).
