So much for a break...
Okay, I might as well get to it…I’m still here.
My trip to Krabi got cancelled thanks to the airport closures…and the best part about it? We were notified about it only TWO hours before the flight, and via SMS. And this was after I had already logged on as late as 12.00 noon to confirm that our flight was still on (our flight was at 3.30pm!)

This was the queue of people waiting to rebook their cancelled flights just after we reached the counter…other flights that got cancelled included those from Hangzhou and Gold Coast...
Better yet, we were already near the LCCT before the sms came. At that point, we figured since we had already converted all our money and were packed, we would try re-booking our destination. And guess what – we had to go and check with customer services…and just to clear TWO people (we were third in line), it took nearly TWO hours!! Grrr…

Imagine how irate these people were…only two people and we waited TWO hours…what more all these people?
When a flight is cancelled, there are only two options – either you get rebooked at the earliest possible flight at no extra cost (but end up having to wait around for god knows how long) or you get the credit back (minus service fee) and have to utilise the credit within 3 months (which also comes with a whole lot of conditions and service fees too!). We tried to rebook to Bangkok instead, but were told that we’d have to top up about RM700 PER PERSON to go there (on top of the RM400+ we had already paid for the Krabi flight…RM1100 to go to Bangkok? Oh come on…a flight to BKK on MAS is only RM800+ by comparison!)
Long and short of it…we ended up just scrapping the whole trip. And by the way? Next time you guys book Air Asia – please don’t bother to book their GoInsure…it has so many conditions, you won’t get anything at all!
*sigh*…can anyone suggest another location for a good break?

So sorry to hear that your trip got canceled, and made worse by the stupid airline.
A thing about that GoInsure thing? They very cleverly add it in WITHOUT you actually opting for it, and it's really easy to miss the option button.
Sigh. I can't imagine how shitty Air Asia X is going to be :(
PS: Bali for your next trip?
Hi Beetrice
I've been reading your blog for quite some time, I'm not one who likes to leave comments but...
I WAS supposed to be in that plane to Krabi as well..and yes, it was super silly for Air Asia to inform ppl 2 hrs before.. but I got the news that the krabi airport was closed on friday nite, so we din go to LCCT. They refunded our tickets in the AirAsia booth in KL sentral... so instead of Krabi, we hung around in KL instead (orang ipoh)
anyway, really small world huh and it would have been fun if i could have met u on the plane. great blog btw.
jane
tine: ain't that the truth!! sigh...what to do - beggars can't be choosers..but Bali? just maybe.. :)
jane: hey jane! thanks for leaving the comment - much appreciated!
wow, small world...but you're lucky you didn't end up waiting at LCCT for 3hrs! it's not really a refund is it...just credit to rebook another flight... :( but hope your time in KL was fun nonetheless!
wow. i never thought that could really happen. I'm thking that I'm quite lucky that each time I took Airasia i did no hv that problem. I pray nothg happens to my flight melb-kl this dec.
dee: oh...is this the 0 fare AirAsia X to melbourne? cool! hope your trip goes smoothly - let me know if it's ok? if it is, i want to book as well... :)
Oh dear, you poor thing. I hope you got your refund in the end. But what a buzz-killer huh? And it really is ridiculous that they don't offer compensation in such situation when they obviously cause inconveniences to their passengers. :/
(P/s: And the lip balm, if it bothers you, try to leave it on your fingertip for a bit to slightly warm it up before applying it. :D )
THANK GOD I scrapped my plans to go to Phuket! Might have ended up being caught in the same situation :/
poor thing :( i heard bali is a nice place to go too! i felt really lucky that i am back from krabi already
try going to macau in nov/dec... its nice n cold out there.. maybe a lil too cold but a good escape from the heat in kl. gambling haven if ur into tht sort of thing.. other thn tht u can sight see too.. places like the venetian and all tht r real beauties.. i enjoyed macau more than i enjoyed hong kong!
missmall: just frustrated over the whole process lah - the inconveniences of going budget!
(hehe...the chill of the lipbalm's just brilliant on a hot day!)
yz: thank goodness! now they've declared a state of emergency too...
prettybeautiful: ya lor...you managed to go!! :( Bali...hmmm...see how lor...
ancient: macau? cold? sounds great! I love cold weather...but as always, it depends on the depth of my pocket (ie. finances!) at that time...hehe...thanks!
yeah, i loved macau... its not a place to go if ur looking for shopping tho, unless ur super loaded n wanna go to those designer boutiques at the venetian. u should seriously consider going, once in a lifetime thingy.. :) and dont forget their famous portugese tarts... they are lovelllyyy.. and also the barbecued pork slices.. :) yummylicious. and if u wanna spend a couple of days in hong kong, its just a ferry ride away. :)
