Quite dissapointed in SG magazine content...

With all the available sites online available to get beauty information from, I admit to still being someone who likes having the glossies of print magazines to look at. However, with what I saw recently in the local magazines, I'm starting to have my doubts. Just take a look at the recent June issues of Cleo, Harper’s Bazaar and Singapore Women’s Weekly which all had mini magazines.

Notice how the cover pages seemingly focus on different topics (plus the fact that each of these magazines is supposed to be targeted at different demographics of women)

The shock for me came when I noticed that the first few pages of the mini-mags were all the same…and extended ALL the way through! All they did was change the cover page, but otherwise the content was EXACTLY the same.

Apart from the cover page, the editor’s note was different…I know all three magazines are owned by the same publishing house, but this is a bit much. Whatever happened to editorial integrity? I can imagine pulling some similar content, but a blatant cover to cover?

that's shocking, wouldnt be surprised if they are sharing a small team of of same writers. most stuff are ripped off from hardworking beauty bloggers like u guys anyway.

Yikes, that's unexpected :( I like Elle Singapore though. The articles are well-written and not as shallow as some other magazines. :P

If I were those editors, I'd HIDE my face not have it plastered all over the mag. Fail!

Actually the Malaysian magazines are the same too. They will print or recycled old articles from previous issues and always feature the same models every year on the cover of the magazine. Some of the articles title are almost similar to other local and foreign magazines. Example: this month's local X woman magazine features model name A. The same magazine in Singapore featured the same model and same articles few months ago.

Ohhh I think this is one of those commercialized advertorials where clients pay them a special package to work on the same material across all titles. Even the ad facing the ed's page is the same! Bet they were not counting on the same person to read all 3 of the titles, because in their books, each title is supposed to target a different demographic. Busted! Hehe. And yes, they DO it HERE as well, I can name a few but better not .... hehehe :P

Shortcake,

You don't have to name the magazines because there are few famous women's magazines here in Malaysia and you can count them with 1 hand.

kimberly low: it might be a small team, but still unacceptable to have end-to-end-exactly-the-same content! -_-

foong jin: some of the sg mags are quite decent, I admit Elle isn't half bad.

paris_b: same here - summore want to put name as EDITOR when it's the same content..err, what editing?

xin: I'm sure it's not the same for the main magazine version (although I have seen suspiciously similar articles before) but for the mini-mags, who knows?

anonymous: true, but in most cases they space out the re-use of the content. this is the first time i've seen them so lazy as to just replicate the same content for THREE mini-mags in the same month!

shortcake: sure got ads, but are they saying that the same material is relevant to all demographics? If that's the case, might as well have generic female mags. hehe, yeah, I know the ones you're referring to! :)

anonymous: the magazines don't need to be famous to replicate material - there are a lot of smaller magazines in msia too that simply repackage material from the bigger/overseas magazines.
