A diet book for kids? Now this is seriously too much…
Was browsing through my usual feeds a while back and came across this – apparently, now they’ve come up with a diet book targeted at…wait for it...6 – 12 year olds. *winces*
The book, titled “Maggie Goes on a Diet” is written and self-published by Hawaii-based author Paul Kramer, and just check out the blurb:
Err…seriously? Is there really a need to start kids obsessing with their weight at such a young age? You’d think that with the increasing numbers of younger and younger kids developing eating disorders and body issues, they’d come up with more encouraging reading materials. Ever heard of encouragement and building self-esteem, Aloha Publishers?
I don’t have any kids, but if I did I wouldn’t let them anywhere near this book. Fail!

Maggie has so much potential that has been hiding under her extra weight. This inspiring story about a 14 year old who goes on a diet and is transformed from being overweight and insecure to a normal sized teen who becomes the school soccer star. Through time, exercise and hard work, Maggie becomes more and more confident and develops a positive self image.

if i have kids in future, i already have diet plans for them! starting from low fat milk!
CRAZY! I think..well personally , I think it is the job of the parents to make sure their kids are eating right! Balanced meal and healthy diet! I don't think kids need to take the pressure for diet diet!
xin: well....if their development is not affected by low-fat milk, I'd say go for it! but err...call it lifestyle choice la, not diet! :P
askmewhats: exactly! for kids who already have shaky self esteem, this may do more harm than good...dunno what the writer was thinking!
Terrible idea for a book..
milktea: I share your sentiment!
